Who runs Memphis Senior Advisor?

Memphis Senior Advisor is a privately run referral and guidance service for older adults and their families in Shelby, Fayette and Tipton counties; it has no connection to Tennessee's Health Facilities Commission, TennCare, the Aging Commission of the Mid-South or any care provider, and it owns no facilities.

Our work has two halves. The public half is this website: Tennessee's licensing rules, payment programs and facility records, laid out so a family can check each claim against the rule number or agency page cited next to it. The private half is a conversation with an advisor, who listens to what your parent needs and suggests licensed places worth touring.

Who pays Memphis Senior Advisor, and why does that matter to you?

Facilities that work with referral services pay us a fee after a family we introduced moves in; families pay nothing, before or after.

Any referral business carries a built-in tilt toward the facilities that pay it. We would rather name that tilt than hide it. The directory on this site lists every active license in the three counties whether or not the facility has ever paid anyone, and an advisor will talk through any of them with you. If a recommendation does not come with reasons you can verify on the state record, ask for them.

What does the directory include, and what does it leave out?

It includes every active assisted-care living facility, home for the aged, nursing home, home health agency and hospice license that Tennessee's records show for the three counties, with the state's own dates, bed counts and disciplinary actions, plus CMS ratings for certified nursing homes.

It leaves out online reviews, star ratings of our own invention, aggregator listings and facility advertising. When a number families ask for has never been published, such as a Memphis-only price or a memory care median, the page says that plainly instead of guessing.

How can families or facilities contact Memphis Senior Advisor?

Write to advisors@memphissenioradvisor.com, or answer the short care-match questions on any page and an advisor will be in touch; facility operators who spot a display error in their state data can use the same address.

For an emergency, call 911. To report possible abuse, neglect or financial exploitation of an older adult in Tennessee, call Adult Protective Services at 1-888-277-8366 at any hour.

Which part of the Memphis metro does Memphis Senior Advisor serve?

Only the Tennessee side: Memphis and Cordova, the Shelby County suburbs of Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Arlington, Lakeland and Millington, and Fayette and Tipton counties, the same territory served by the Aging Commission of the Mid-South and the MIFA ombudsman district (which also includes Lauderdale County).

Facilities in DeSoto County, Mississippi, and in Arkansas fall under other states' licensing laws and records, so they are not in our directory. Our guide to the state line explains what changes for a family weighing Southaven or Olive Branch.
