How do home health and hospice differ, and who pays?
Home health brings skilled nursing and therapy visits to a homebound patient under a doctor's plan, usually paid by Medicare; hospice brings a comfort-care team to someone with a life expectancy of six months or less, paid by Medicare's hospice benefit.
Neither provides round-the-clock hourly caregivers. Some licensed home health agencies focus on infusion or pediatric services; ask each one what it provides before a referral. Both kinds of agency can serve residents of assisted-care living facilities.
